Padre Federico Faura was a Jesuit priest born in Barcelona, Spain on December 30, 1840. When he was assigned to the Philippines, he was put in charge of the Manila Observatory located on what would be on Padre Faura street. Formerly, Padre Faura street was called Observatorio Street. He was very successful heading the Observatory in predicting the weather, establishing a time service, making seismological observations and studying astronomy. His monthly bulletin Boletin del Observatorio de Manila was very much in demand. He died on January 23, 1897 in Manila.
